I was lucky because mom was a stay at home mom for quite a few years so she was home when I got off the bus each day. There is nothing like the smell of something cooking or the knowing that somebody is there when you get home.
Mom taught us the love of books because she read to us often and we saw how much she loved to read. I think just about everyone of us kids always have a book we are in the process of reading or have just finished.
Mom taught us love of music because she was always singing to us. Especially when there was a storm coming and she didn’t want us scared. She would pull the rocking chair into the kitchen and hold us on her lap and sing until it passed. Most of us play a guitar or piano and have collections of music that are unheard of.
The biggest thing was teaching us how important love is. She put us to bed each night with a kiss and an I love you and no matter where we were going a hug and a kiss and an I love you followed us out the door.
Mom is for the most part patient and kind and has never told me “I told you so” She is always there to listen when I cry and to laugh when I attempt to be funny and just to be when she just needs to be. She lets us kids make our own mistakes even tho she knows in her heart what the outcome is going to be. For all of that “I Love you Mom. You are the world and much more to me.”
